Kerry C. Gumas

President and Chief Executive Officer - Newton, MA
 
Kerry led the founding of Questex, serving  as its President & CEO since inception. In 2008 he led the acquisition of FierceMarkets, which has become the focal point for Questex’s digital media development, innovation and growth. Kerry provides overall strategic leadership and direction to the company’s senior leadership team and has led the remarkable growth and transformation of Questex to a technology-enabled business event, information and marketing platform. Under his leadership the company  drives business investment, innovation and demand creation in the markets it serves by bringing together investors, buyers, sellers and professionals through its over 50 trade shows, conferences and other business events, informing them through more than 100 business media and information products and supporting clients with a comprehensive platform of marketing solutions. Prior to founding Questex, Kerry held senior executive positions at IDG, Advanstar (UBMAdvanstar), and Reed Exhibitions in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He began his career as an trade specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce responsible for China trade promotion activities and continues to be a strong advocate for international trade and investment. He is a board member of industry associations, including the Connectiv division of SIIA and is a past president and board member of SISO and SACEOS. Kerry earned a BA in Political Science from Widener University.

Debra Mason

Chief Financial Officer - New York, NY

Debra is Chief Financial Officer of Questex, responsible for leading the company’s global financial operations. With over 25 years of experience, Debra has held leadership positions in finance and accounting in a variety of industries. Most recently, she served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer for ALM Media LLC, a B2B information company specialized in legal and other related markets.   Prior to that she was CFO for the Americas region for nine years at Ipsos, a global market research firm.  Debra has also held financial leadership positions at global and specialist agency businesses, including Interpublic Group, The Lowe Group, Mullen and Wolf Group and; Jack Morton Worldwide, an event management and experiential marketing firm and others.  Debra began her career in professional accounting, audit and systems roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers and EY, formerly Ernst & Young. 

Debra earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and a bachelor of science degree in accounting at The University at Buffalo School of Management, State University of New York. She is a certified public accountant in the State of New York and earned designations including Chartered Global Management Accountant and Certified Valuation Analyst.  

Steve Kurtz

Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer - Washington, D.C.

Steve is Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer of Questex where he oversees digital strategy, product development and technology operations as well as the Life Sciences, Healthcare, Telecommunications and IT marketplaces.  Steve has over 25 years of experience in technology. Prior to joining Questex, Steve served as Vice President of Product Development at Gannett/USA TODAY where he was responsible for all mobile and web product development.  Prior to USA TODAY, Steve served as President and CEO of CavaSoft, Inc., a software consultancy specializing in hospitality and government technology solutions.  Steve holds a bachelors’ degree in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University.

John McMahon

Executive Vice President, Questex Travel Group - New York, NY

John is the Executive Vice President of the Questex Travel Group, the leading provider of global multi-channel travel event, digital media, content marketing and business information solutions. With more than 20 years of industry experience, he has been a driving force for many successful media and event launches including the Travel Demand Gen, Learning & Loyalty platform, Luxury Travel Advisor magazine, Luxury Travel Expo and Incentive Travel Exchange. As Executive Vice President of the Travel Group, John oversees all products within the travel divisions of the group.

Prior to Questex John spent 10 years at Northstar Travel Group in many sales and management positions most notably as Publisher of the Official Hôtel Guide and OAG Business Travel Planners. John has served on Advisory Boards for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Club Med.  

Alexi Khajavi

Executive Vice President, Questex Hospitality Group - New York, NY

Alexi is Executive Vice President of Questex Hospitality and Head of Destination Develop Investment Services. He is responsible for the overall management and development of the company's global hospitality and destination communications properties and events including the Hotel Management Group, the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) Summit Series, Destination Develop and Destination Development Investment Services, HOTEC Operations & Technology and other destination and hotel investment events in the U.S., Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Alexi, who brings more than 17 years of travel, hospitality and publications experience to his position, joined Questex in 2014 as senior managing director of Destination Develop, a new digital media platform covering global tourism industry investment opportunities at the destination level, and Destination Develop Investment Services, an in-house agency that develops marketing and matchmaking campaigns and services for destinations and private-sector businesses in tourism looking for investment. Prior to joining Questex, Khajavi was senior vice president, global strategy, for MercuryCSC, a marketing agency specializing in the travel industry where he helped grow the firm's billings four-fold and designed global marketing campaigns for travel companies, tourism boards and airlines. Prior to MercuryCSC, he was one of the founding team members of a regional airline located in Central America and helped guide the airline in being the fastest growing travel company in the region between 2003 and 2010. Concurrent with his Questex duties, Khajavi is senior business advisor at the Center for Health and the Global Environment at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston; advisor board member at KERBspace Inc., a location-based sales and publishing platform; founder & president of Adventure Kapitalist, a venture capital firm; director on the executive board of Sustainable Travel International, Washington; and director on the board of governors of Nature Group, an airline and hotel management company based in Costa Rica.

Iain Tonna

President, Questex-McLean Events - Surrey, UK

Iain has built a record of achievement over 20 years in the meetings and events industry. He joined McLean Events International, now Questex-McLean Events, as its Director of Operations in 2000. He then served as the company's VP Operations before the company's acquisition by Questex in 2007. Next, he took on the role of VP & COO until 2013, when he was appointed President. He has served as a board member of the Malta Tourism Authority since 2005 and as president of the Federated Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Malta) since 2004. He is a graduate of the University of Malta.

Bryon Main

Chief Executive Officer, ExL Events - New York, N.Y.

With a passion to serve customers and the pharmaceutical industry, Bryon followed his entrepreneurial spirit to co-found ExL Events in 2004. Leveraging more than 14 years of experience as a pharmaceutical industry conference expert, Bryon oversees all commercial development for ExL Events, including marketing, sales and production operations, as well as management of key conference brands. Before forming ExL Events, Bryon got his professional start with the Institute of International Research, where he oversaw the launch and development of key industry events such as the Pharmaceutical Marketing Congress, ePharma Summit and MedEdCongress.

Auseh Britt

Vice President Marketing - Washington, DC

Auseh has over 15 years of marketing experience in a variety of industries including media and publishing, information services, consumer goods, and hospitality. As the VP, Marketing and Client Services, she leads audience development, content marketing, and corporate marketing initiatives. Prior to joining Questex, she was Director, Online Marketing at Bloomberg BNA, leading the company’s digital marketing strategy with a focus on website marketing, email marketing, content marketing, marketing automation, search marketing (SEM and SEO), online advertising and multimedia production. She has extensive experience in demand generation, lead nurturing, and sales enablement.

Auseh has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and a MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. She is also adjunct faculty at Georgetown University, teaching in the Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Marketing.

Annette Alvarado

Vice President Human Capital - New York, NY

Annette leads the company’s efforts to attract, develop and retain the best and brightest team in the industry. Her portfolio focuses on global strategy for human capital development, organizational design, career development, recruiting, global professional culture, employee policies and communications, and benefits and compensation.

Annette brings to Questex a sophisticated background in human capital strategy and leadership. Her nearly 20-year resume includes executive positions in human resources with media innovators ranging from start-ups to digital brands.

Bob Stewart

Vice President Business Development - Newton, MA

Bob works with Questex’s vertical teams to develop new businesses. In addition, he handles management responsibilities for the Nightclub & Bar Group, VIBE and the Technology Events Group, including Sensors Expo, Sensor Midwest and the Medical Sensors Design Conference. Bob has a wide-ranging publishing, digital and events background as an economist, market researcher and marketing executive at media companies including Cahners Publishing, PRIMEDIA, Penton, Advanstar and Reed Exhibitions. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Tufts University and M.B.A. from Boston University.
